The United Artist Theater Located in the heart of Old Pasadena’s historic district was the catalyst that started the renovation of this now vibrant shopping and entertainment destination. However, with the advent of multiplex theaters and stadium-style seating, the 1980’s structure could no longer compete. The project involved the complete repositioning of the 23,000 SF structure into a high-end retail destination along the world-famous Colorado Boulevard. The project involved the subdivision of the structure into three distinct facades facing Colorado & De Lacey. The primary façade design of the building evokes the historic Spanish Colonial architecture prevalent in the district, while the secondary façades along De Lacy and McCormick Alley take queues from the Federalist brick structures prevalent in the back streets and alleyways of the historic district
